My latest project was a last minute idea that popped into my head. It occurred to me my wife and I still have no photo albums. My wife had recently printed off a bunch of pictures and I though she would like a photo album to put them in.
I also had been really wanting to start getting into working with leather and figured this would be a great project to do that on. When searching for ideas I saw several photo albums that used hinges for the cover, but didnt see anything that caught my eye so I decided to come up with my own method and hope for the best.
I first purchased a basic tool kit online, watched a bunch of leather working videos, and also took a drive to a neightboring city to visit a Tandy Leather store that they have there and asked a bunch of question.
Ive never really seen this technique and so thought it would be really cool to sew the leather to the wood so I sketched up some ideas and got to work. I think reason that you dont ever really see that is because you cant use a sewing machine and it takes a long time! I am really happy with how it turned out. The covers cup a little bit, but that is really hard to avoid with such thin wood and I am totally ok with that. It still look really cool.
